49ers training camp: 5 players who show off the most in 2021

No. 3: 49ers Running Back Trey Sermon
Sticking with the rookie theme here, one of the players who should draw no shortage of attention during training camp is running back Trey Sermon.
Sermon received plenty of first-team work during OTAs, thanks to the Niners resting first-string running back Raheem Mostert for much of those practices because of a minor knee injury. And the early results were impressive enough, at least according to one report from Sports Illustrated’s Grant Cohn:
"Had the longest run of the day. It was an outside zone run to his right. Sermon burst through the line and then cut back all the way across the field to gain 30 yards. His acceleration and balance are eye-popping."
True, those reports were without tackling and contact, so Sermon’s early impressions have to be taken with a grain of salt.
That said, though, Sermon’s 6-foot-0, 215-pound build doesn’t lack for physicality, and it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see him not just manage through the added contact but rather thrive through it.
It’s appearing as if San Francisco wants to make Sermon a big part of its offense in 2021, so he won’t hurt for a lack of touches during training camp.
Look for him to make the most of those opportunities.
