49ers Free Agency Target No. 3: Wide Receiver Will Fuller

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Will Fuller might not get the kind of context he was looking for when he jumped ship from the Houston Texans this offseason.

Particularly with second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa going through all kinds of problems early during Miami’s offseason programs.

Fuller, 27 years old, has to be getting sick of the mediocrity he’s had to deal with over the last few seasons, save his former quarterback in Houston, Deshaun Watson, being about the only bright spot in an otherwise frustrating career. And after signing just a one-year deal with the Dolphins, Fuller will likely want to see if he can latch on with a true contender.

The 49ers have two promising wideouts in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. But the depth behind those two remains thin heading into 2021, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see head coach Kyle Shanahan wanting to implement some further speed with a legitimate deep threat.

Sounds an awful lot like Fuller.

Trey Lance will need receiving weapons anyway, and the Niners can afford to splurge a little bit, bringing in a still-productive player like Fuller to round out the receiving corps and make sure San Francisco’s offense functions at a playoff-caliber level.
