Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Destination No. 1: Miami Dolphins

Like the Broncos, the Miami Dolphins could and should have made a first-round investment in a quarterback, but Miami — perhaps unwisely — elected to stick with second-year pro Tua Tagovailoa under center into 2021 despite his multiple flameouts last year.

OK, fine. Tagovailoa’s rookie-year struggles alone may not have been enough for the Dolphins to give up so quickly.

But according to more recent reports from Miami’s offseason workouts, Tagovailoa hasn’t looked good in camp whatsoever. And unless the Dolphins think his backups, Jacoby Brissett and/or Reid Sinnett, can get the job done right away and turn them into a playoff contender, the Fins are certainly in a position where they’d have to consider a pre-Week 1 blockbuster.

Yes, the Dolphins would likely rather entertain someone like disgruntled Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers or even Deshaun Watson. If neither wind up being available, though, could Miami call up the Niners and ask about Jimmy Garoppolo?

The Dolphins have just over $5 million in cap space, so that might be difficult. But their roster is on the ascent, and Miami has netted 10 picks in next year’s NFL Draft, more than enough to find some worthy compensation for Jimmy G’s services.

If the Dolphins want to make some headway in a pretty fluid AFC East, parting ways with Tagovailoa and going after Garoppolo might be a workable way to do it.
