No. 2 Fantasy Football Bust to Avoid: WR Allen Robinson, Bears

Make no mistake: Chicago Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson is a stud and should find his way onto every fantasy football roster this season.

But remember the part about how busts can simply be players who wind up being drafted too high with regards to their actual levels of production versus ADP?

Well, there’s a good chance that winds up being the case here.

Robinson is a WR1 candidate for sure. But his 3.09 ADP is notably risky, particularly in a context where the Bears have yet to identify who’ll be their starter this season. True, head coach Matt Nagy has all but signaled it’ll be the veteran, Andy Dalton, serving as the initial bridge to Chicago’s top NFL Draft choice, quarterback Justin Fields. Yet it’s not hard to get too deep without seeing the risks here.

For starters, Dalton isn’t good. Let’s just get that out of the way. Second, trusting a pass-catcher to be a WR1 candidate on fantasy rosters with a rookie quarterback throwing to him is always a risky proposition.

Fields could be amazing. Perhaps amazing early in the season once Dalton is benched. Yet one doesn’t have to be a fantasy football guru to realize how many stud wide receivers see their stats regress initially with a first-year quarterback under center.

Robinson could end up reaching 1,000 receiving yards for a third consecutive year. But given the quarterbacking situation in Chicago, it’s probably best to sleep on Robinson for a couple of rounds or at least let another owner take on that fantasy risk instead.
