No. 7 Fantasy Football Bust to Avoid: TE Evan Engram, Giants
Staying with the tight end theme here for a bit, one of the other players fantasy football owners should either pass on until the final rounds or even pass up altogether is the New York Giants’ Evan Engram.
Engram’s ADP (9.05) is just one round later than that of Hunter Henry, but one could make the argument the former is much more attractive a fantasy draft option because of his first-time Pro Bowl nod a season ago.
Yes, some owners will subscribe to that notion, and they’ll also believe Engram staying within the same offensive system will boost his overall value and production.
In truth, the G-Men have done a ton this offseason to help out their quarterback, Daniel Jones, including adding wide receiver Kenny Golladay to help spark the passing game in New York.
Golladay alone will take targets away from Engram, as could rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney, and Jones will be under pressure anyway to prove he’s a franchise-caliber quarterback. While that could be good news for any owners targeting Giants pass-catchers, it would be much wiser to either stash a player like Engram as a TE2/bye-week reserve instead of using a mid-round pick on him.
If Jones finally turns the page, Engram could be a great sleeper pick. But it’s a massive risk to put Engram into a TE1 or FLEX category.
