49ers Offensive Line

The big men up front, the offensive linemen are some of the most important players on the field and yet their names are rarely mentioned. So let’s start with the offensive linemen and show them some love here.

At tackle, we have Hall of Famer Bob St. Clair who was born in San Franciso and attended the now-defunct San Francisco Polytechnic High School.

His high school happened to be just across the street from Kezar Stadium, which is where he would go on to make a name for himself with the 49ers. He played his entire career for them from 1953 to 1963, during which time he was selected to five Pro Bowls.

He would go onto be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.

At guard, we have Kevin Gogan who went to high school at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco.

He actually began his career with the Dallas Cowboys in 1987 after a college career at Washington. He would win two Super Bowls with them. But then, Gogan signed with his hometown Niners in 1997 as a free agent. He only played two years with San Francisco but was a Pro Bowl selection in both of those seasons.

Our hometown hero at center is Jeremy Newberry, who attended Antioch High School in Antioch, California, before going on to play his college career out at Cal.

He was selected in the second round (58th overall) in the 1998 NFL Draft and played for seven seasons with the 49ers in which he was selected to two Pro Bowls.
