3 simple roster moves 49ers should make before training camp

No. 1: 49ers must finish the deal with Dede Westbrook
Just like with Richard Sherman, there were earlier reports this offseason San Francisco was flirting with the idea of onboarding wide receiver Dede Westbrook.
Westbrook, whose 2020 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars was cut short by injuries, is still just 27 years old. And the 49ers can look back to his 2018 and 2019 seasons where Westbrook posted well over 650 receiving yards in both seasons.

The Niners don’t need a top-impact wide receiver heading into 2021. They hope they have them in wideouts Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
But what’s needed is a quality No. 3 option. And even after that, the remaining two or three spots on the 53-man roster are completely up for grabs.
Heading into training camp, depth wide receivers like Jauan Jennings and Mohamed Sanu are impressing the most, yet there’s at least one more spot available, potentially two.
Westbrook could help round out the depth chart by serving as a veteran piece who still has some youth on his side.
And at this point during the offseason, it’s likely Westbrook wouldn’t be overly expensive either, and San Francisco could still use receiving help.
