3 simple roster moves 49ers should make before training camp

No. 2: 49ers should part ways with Marcell Harris
The Niners have enough evidence to suggest fourth-year safety Marcell Harris shouldn’t factor into the team’s long-term plans.
Sure, Harris is capable of the splash play from time to time. But his 36.6 pass-coverage grade from Pro Football Focus last year is merely the latest indicator he’s not reliable as a cover option, which isn’t good in today’s pass-happy NFL.
Harris was going to have a long road to make the 53-man roster anyway. And while fellow defensive back Tarvarius Moore’s torn Achilles opens the door a bit more, the fact this prediction would have Richard Sherman coming back means there’s a need to open up another roster spot.
Subtracting Harris, San Francisco would still have its three other recently onboarded safeties to alleviate the loss: Talanoa Hufanga, Tavon Wilson and Tony Jefferson.
It sure seems like the 49ers would be much more invested in those three than Harris.
So, if he’s not going to make the roster, it would be in the Niners’ interest to give those other players more reps in training camp, and Harris could then get an early jump on the free-agent market.
