No. 3: 49ers Left Tackle Trent Williams

Until proven otherwise, Trent Williams is going to remain a perennial Pro Bowl favorite until his career begins the inevitable decline.

Turning 33 years old later this offseason, that point is sooner than later despite the Niners inking Williams to a record-setting six-year contract during the offseason. While the financial ramifications from that deal could be felt for years to come, San Francisco is well aware Williams is one of the league’s best tackles despite being on the wrong side of 30 years old.

The fact Williams has made eight consecutive Pro Bowls while playing, the only exception being his 2019 campaign in which he sat out with the Washington Football Team, is evidence enough he’s on that trajectory again entering 2021.

Sure, it’s possible Williams suffers some kind of regression this year. But if his age was a worry point a year ago, Williams’ stellar play in both run support and pass protection negated any concern this should carry over into the upcoming season.

True, there are a number of other NFC tackles who could potentially challenge Williams for a top vote-getting spot. But even if he’s beaten out by the voters, there’s an awfully strong chance he makes it in as an alternate regardless.

History suggests so.
