49ers post-OTA 53-man roster predictions for 2021
49ers Quarterbacks (3)
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
QB Trey Lance
QB Nate Sudfeld
This group is unchanged from last time around, mostly because it feels about as set in stone as any position group on the roster.
Barring any massive surge by No. 3 overall draft pick, Trey Lance, incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo will remain in that spot for likely the bulk of the 2021 season. It feels a certainty that head coach Kyle Shanahan will find a way to get Lance on the field this season, but unless Garoppolo is beaten or gets injured, he’s the guy.
The third slot is now between two guys: former 2018 first-round draft pick Josh Rosen or former 2016 sixth-round draft pick Nate Sudfeld, both of whom have limited NFL experience, although Rosen played 14 games as a rookie in 2018.
In a pure case of following the cash, the 49ers gave Sudfeld $252,000 in guaranteed money, whereas Rosen has none on his deal.
This could end up mattering if the competition is close, even if Niners fans hope neither gets anywhere near the field.
