No. 4: 49ers S Marcell Harris

Safety Marcell Harris is a solid player, and I think he will be able to hold onto his spot on San Francisco’s roster as a backup strong safety, but that depends entirely on the progression and contribution of newly acquired rookie strong safety Talanoa Hufanga.

Not only are early reports on Hufanga glaringly positive, but he actually has a higher draft-pick pedigree than Harris, which means he may force the 49ers to cut ties with one of their numerous depth players at the position.

The Niners can actually save almost $1 million in salary cap if they were to go ahead and waive Harris following June 1, and while it would come as a slight surprise to me if it were to happen, it will mean Hufanga has surpassed Harris and will anchor the team’s backup safety unit.

Harris though has been a solid contributor in his limited appearances for this team, so this is why I have to mark him as a potentially shocking cut if it were to happen.
