With Tim Tebow playing as a tight end now, Niner Noise has some fun looking at 49ers players who could potentially go through a position switch if they wanted to.

If you’re a fan of Jacksonville Jaguars “tight end” Tim Tebow, you’re probably thrilled he’s back in the NFL after his hiatus to pursue minor league baseball.

If you’re not, well, it’s probably upsetting to hear so much of him back in the news.

Tebow flaming out as an NFL quarterback needs little backdrop, and an admirable-yet-futile attempt to make it into MLB ranks ultimately resulted in his return to the league… as a tight end.

For a Jaguars team needing all kinds of help in what promises to be a massive rebuild under first-year head coach Urban Meyer, this seems like a silly proposition. Perhaps Tebow makes the most out of it and shocks the football landscape.

Or, just as possible, he flames out.

Either way, it is somewhat entertaining to consider what might happen if other players pursued a similar course. And in the case of the San Francisco 49ers, it might not necessarily be too difficult to highlight a handful of players who could ultimately switch positions if the context called for it.

For starters, head coach Kyle Shanahan has been spending years trying to implement a “positionless” offense where running backs run wide receiver routes in the passing game, fullbacks line out wide, pass plays look identical to the run plays used the snap before and so on.

So, from that vantage point, let’s take a look at three Niners who could hypothetically make the jump from one position to another.
