The 49ers have rounded out their 90-man offseason roster after the 2021 NFL Draft, yet these three still-available free agents would be worth targeting.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have long put an emphasis on days two and three of the NFL Draft on grabbing players they felt had a legitimate chance of making the regular-season 53-man roster.

Not using those picks on offseason roster “fillers” to get the pre-cut crop up to 90 players.

At the same time, though, Shanahan and Lynch have also stressed the willingness to improve any position on the roster regardless of who currently occupies that spot. It’s one of the reasons why the Niners acted so bold in the 2021 draft, trading up from No. 12 overall to No. 3 in order to grab quarterback Trey Lance, the heir apparent to San Francisco’s current starter, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Lance headlined a class of eight newly drafted rookies, and the 49ers also brought aboard four undrafted free agents shortly after the draft concluded.

Yet that shouldn’t mean Lynch and Shanahan completely ignore the remaining NFL free agency market.

Free agency was weird this offseason. Particularly due to the diminished salary cap in the wake of the global pandemic. But it’s not unusual to see some pretty good names still out there on the open market. And with the dust from the draft now settling down, plenty of teams are combing over the free-agent wire to see if some added talent can be brought aboard for the right price.

Assuming Lynch and Shanahan are doing the same, these three still-available free agents would be worth looking at.
