Cornerbacks currently on 49ers offseason roster
The 49ers did a good job proverbially “keeping the band together” in free agency this offseason, and retaining both Jason Verrett and K’Waun Williams on cheap one-year deals was certainly a smart move.
So was re-signing restricted free-agent corner Emmanuel Moseley to a two-year deal. Tack on another one-year contract for reserve cornerback Dontae Johnson, and at least the Niners had a foursome of experienced players.
Including the two drafted rookies, though, San Francisco’s cornerback roster is as follows:
- Briean Boddy-Calhoun
- Mark Fields II
- Tim Harris Jr.
- Dontae Johnson
- Deommodore Lenoir
- Emmanuel Moseley
- Ambry Thomas
- Jason Verrett
- Ken Webster
- K’Waun Williams
Removing the four veterans mentioned above, the remaining crop of cornerbacks have a combined 27 starts between them with Boddy-Calhoun boasting 22 of that number.
Not exactly a ton of experience, so it’s understandable why the 49ers wanted to infuse some new talent while also retaining some of their once-pending free agents.
