Niner Noise Podcast hosts Robert Morrison and Chris Wilson host a panel to talk the 49ers’ selection of Trey Lance and the rest of Round 1 of the NFL Draft.

San Francisco 49ers fans no longer have to worry whether or not head coach Kyle Shanahan was too enamored with Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

No, the Niners elected to pick up North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance instead, banking on his enormous upside while also understanding Lance, who played just one game in 2020, will need some time to develop.

The Niner Noise Podcast held a special edition for Round 1 of the NFL Draft, as hosts Robert Morrison and Chris Wilson welcomed aboard the rest of the Niner Noise team, including junior editor Peter Panacy and contributors Safa Shoostry, Terrance Epps, Nathan Bannerman, Isaac Garcia, Timmy Gibson and our resident NFL Draft expert, Jeremy Wohlfart.

The Niner Noise team followed the buildup to San Francisco’s selection at No. 3, not shying away from the rumors surrounding Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and whether or not he or even the 49ers’ current starter,

Jimmy Garoppolo

, could be on the move soon.

The Niners taking Lance all but ensures Garoppolo stays, and that’s a topic the podcast team discusses at length, especially after the NDSU quarterback’s name was called.

Needless to say, there was no shortage of relief when Lance’s name was announced.

Niner Noise Podcast discusses Mike McGlinchey, 49ers’ Day 2 targets

San Francisco’s brass previously announced it would be picking up right tackle Mike McGlinchey’s fully guaranteed fifth-year option for 2022, much to the “excitement” of Wilson, while Wohlfart questioned whether or not the 49ers may seek some quality depth or a long-term replacement on day two of the draft.

Currently, the Niners own two picks split between Rounds 2 and 3, Nos. 43 and 102 overall.

With San Francisco’s pick in the book, the gang didn’t hesitate to follow along with the rest of the picks in Round 1, including some of the shockers like the Las Vegas Raiders’ selection of Alabama offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, who could have been a second-day pick.

Meanwhile, the Packers didn’t select a first-round wide receiver again.

Wohlfart was spot on in his last 32-pick mock draft with so many of his team’s positional picks, only to see many of the player names be entirely different. That was humorous.

And so was Wilson’s never-ending search to find the closing foghorn button.
