49ers roster: Predicting cornerback depth chart after re-signing Jason Verrett
49ers cornerback depth chart
Verrett solidified himself as cornerback number one with his 2020 play. But how will the rest of the cornerback depth chart shake out? Two additional offseason signings might provide some guidance to that question.
In addition to Verrett, the 49ers also re-signed cornerbacks, Emmanuel Moseley and K’Waun Williams. At this current time, Moseley would be No. 2 on the depth chart, followed by Williams getting the start at the nickel corner spot.

Behind the three of them sit:
- Dontae Johnson
- Adonis Alexander
- Briean Boddy-Calhoun
- Ken Webster
- Tim Harris Jr.
Other than Johnson the rest of the names listed above might simply be camp bodies, with some of them winding up on the practice squad.
At this moment, Moseley has probably earned the right to start the season as cornerback No. 2 across the field from Verrett. But he has not been as consistent over the past two seasons as Verrett though, so that spot might ultimately be up for grabs.
Williams will likely stay at the nickel corner spot as he’s worked his way into being one of the best corners defending the slot over the past two seasons. The draft though could prove to be where the 49ers ultimately find a rookie to compete for the outside corner spot across from Verrett.
The 49ers pick at No. 3 overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and while it’s unclear who the selection will be, it seems to be a foregone conclusion with the fact they traded up to that spot, that they will be taking a quarterback.
After the first round, in all likelihood, the 49ers will be selecting a cornerback at some point during the draft. Enough roster spots are covered that they can wait to take the best player available from Round 2 onward.
If it happens to be a cornerback in Rounds 2 or 3, don’t be surprised to see that player compete with Moseley for the No. 2 cornerback spot on the depth chart.
However, if it’s during a later round, that player might take a bit more time to develop. That would open the door for one of the players currently further down on the depth chart to make a move at becoming a starter.
Tim Harris time anyone?
