49ers Target No. 1: Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC

San Francisco doesn’t have to just stick with day-three selections at wide receiver, and it’s totally reasonable to think it’ll target one on day two of the NFL Draft.

If that’s the case, or if he slips beyond Round 3, USC wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown would be an ideal Kendrick Bourne replacement.

At 6-foot-0 and 197 pounds, St. Brown is a little leaner than Bourne but has the ability to grow into his body a bit more with some functional strength. Already, St. Brown has the speed edge over Bourne with a 4.51 40-yard time, and St. Brown was used both as a slot option with the Trojans as well as on the outside.

Of the three on this list, one should make the argument St. Brown is the most accomplished route-runner, which could put him into consideration as an actual upgrade over Bourne in the long run. While there’s some concern about St. Brown’s general lack of physicality when fighting for 50-50 balls, he’s far more polished in his route tree and won’t shy away from contact when the ball is in his hands.

St. Brown has the production, too, registering 750 receiving yards on 60 grabs as a freshman, then backed up with over 1,000 yards in 2019 with another solid 478 yards and seven scores over six games last year.

As far as the complete package goes, St. Brown is a quality target in the middle rounds and could be the perfect shoo-in replacement for someone like Bourne.
