49ers NFL Draft: 3 prospects who can replace Jordan Reed
By Peter Panacy
49ers Target No. 1: Brevin Jordan, Miami
We already know San Francisco has had regular contact with Miami tight end Brevin Jordan, so there was some interest there long before the news of Jordan Reed’s retirement was announced.
Jordan, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, apparently had a “disappointing” pro day, running a 4.69 40-yard time and generally not being thrilled with his own performance. But if you’re of the mindset a pro day only matters so much and a player’s game tape is ultimately the biggest factor, there’s still a lot to like when considering Jordan.

Pro Football Focus was enamored with Jordan, too, even pointing out a fit to a team like the 49ers:
"Jordan showed up at Miami looking like a running back but being called a tight end. His usage was closer to a RB with an average depth of catch only 3.4 yards downfield. After filling out his frame a bit more, Jordan still looks like a running back, only now that running back is Derrick Henry. Jordan has a very clear path to success in a Shanahan-Kubiak scheme that runs its tight ends on a lot of drags, flats and seams where speed and YAC are king. The problem is that he’ll have to prove to defenses that he’s a legit inline threat first."
As far as being a threat goes, Jordan managed 576 yards on 38 grabs with seven touchdowns last year for the Hurricanes, capping off a three-year collegiate tenure in which he had 1,358 yards and 13 scores.
If teams are strongly worried about Jordan’s pro day, it’s possible he slips into the early stages of day three, perhaps going in Round 4 instead of potentially being the No. 2 tight end selected by Kyle Pitts.
Or, just as possibly, Jordan winds up being a mid-Round 2 target. A team like the Niners will have to monitor this closely on draft day.
