NFL Draft Pick No. 8: Jaycee Horn, Cornerback, South Carolina

Quarterback was a possibility here for the Carolina Panthers, but this changed in the wake of their trade with the New York Jets for Sam Darnold.

The Panthers didn’t give up the draft capital that they did for a backup, so they’re going to give him a chance to be the guy. This is probably for the best, as instead of reaching for a quarterback they can continue to build their defense back up.

It’s a battle between Jaycee Horn, Caleb Farley and Patrick Surtain to be the first cornerback off the board. All of them could be in play here as the Panthers look to bolster the secondary.

As the better athlete with some impressive 2020 tape, Horn gets the nod here as the first defensive player off the board in this mock.

Horn had six pass breakups and two interceptions in 2020, and his tape shows him covering receivers with ease. He’s very fast and twitchy, and Horn can take away routes from receivers.
