49ers news: Nick Bosa shows off recovery, expected back soon
By Peter Panacy
49ers DE Nick Bosa recently showed off an impressive workout video, and reports suggest he’ll be back soon after tearing his ACL in 2020.
The San Francisco 49ers sure can’t wait to get star EDGE Nick Bosa back on the field.
While Bosa tearing his ACL last year was far from ideal, the fact it took place early in the 2020 season in Week 2 was a slight bonus, as it gave him an added timeframe to fully recover en route to backing up his impressive 2019 campaign where he mustered 9.0 sacks during the regular season en route to being named that year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year and a first-year Pro Bowler.
And by the looks of it, according to Bosa’s Instagram (h/t The Checkdown), his workout routines are showing off his recovery:
The lateral movement is great to see with regards to his recovery, as that can be one of the trickier elements from which to recover when tearing an ACL.
And according to additional reports, San Francisco is expecting its 2019 first-round NFL Draft pick back in time for the 2021 regular season.
49ers anticipate Nick Bosa will be available in time for Week 1
The 49ers lacked an elite pass rush with both Bosa and fellow EDGE Dee Ford out of the lineup in 2020, accumulating just 30 sacks last season compared to 48 the year before.
While Ford’s status remains questionable, as he continued to deal with a back injury, Bosa’s presence on the field is expected to give the Niners defense a massive boost, and he’ll be expected to give first-year defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans plenty of reasons to be confident in that side of the ball.
On Friday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared with NFL Now (h/t NFL.com’s Kevin Patra) the news both Ryans and San Francisco fans were hoping to hear:
"If you’ve listened to some of the Zoom interviews from the 49ers players who have signed over the course of the last couple weeks and free agency, Bosa has represented a lot of optimism for them. It sounds like Bosa is going to be ready and expected to contribute mightily for this 49ers team."
Those comments, as well as Bosa’s impressive workout video, are both great indications the Niners will be getting one of their top defenders back in excellent form this season.
For a team retaining a good chunk of its defensive cast from last season, and many of those injured players expecting to return in good form, Bosa should be able to pick up right where he left off and make the kind of impact on the field that’s expected from him.
Maybe even more, and San Francisco wouldn’t complain one bit.
