Round 1, Pick No. 3 Overall (from Dolphins): 49ers select quarterback Justin Fields, Ohio State
No surprises here. The 49ers use their newly acquired pick from the Dolphins on one of the top-name quarterbacks in this year’s class.
And with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and BYU’s Zach Wilson already off the board, having gone at Nos. 1 and 2 overall, respectively, the Niners’ choice is an easy one.
Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
One needs to point out the 6-foot-3, 228-pound Fields has previously worked with Kyle Shanahan at the head coach’s QB Collective, and one scout pointed out Shanahan and San Francisco wasn’t going to use that No. 3 overall pick on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones:

Fields has the cannon arm, which is a clear upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo’s, plus the former has the ability to thrive in the bootleg movement Shanahan has within his system.
Armed with a full cast of offensive weapons around him and a revamped offensive line, Fields would be in the best situation of any of the top four quarterbacks to start right away even if it means he has to have a quick transition into the complicated 49ers offense.
Yet if there was anyone capable of showcasing talents right away within that system, Fields would be it.
