No. 3: Make Justin Fields part of the 49ers

The closer we get to the NFL Draft, the better every quarterback seems to get.

Stock profile goes up and the negatives seem to vanquish into thin air. It’s the same every year as the draft gets closer and closer. All the quarterbacks projected to go in the first round are the best quarterbacks to ever come out of college.

This year, however, we could have five quarterbacks go in the first 10 picks. San Francisco holds the third pick and will likely see two quarterbacks go with the first and second selections — Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson to the New York Jets, respectively.

Barring any shocks that would leave Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields free to become the next quarterback to lead the 49ers.

After embracing an ever-moving pocket at Ohio State, he would fit nicely into a play-action/QB-run offense. Fields’ dynamic ability and the way he can beat defenders with his legs make him extremely dangerous coming into the NFL.

Look at the success mobile quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray are having.

As well as being able to beat people with his feet, Fields is big and strong, a trait that cannot be said about Jimmy Garappolo. With Fields’ strong arm, there is no throw he can’t make, and with all the weapons the 49ers have at his disposal, he could thrive from day one.

Fields looks like he is going to be a franchise quarterback for someone, and with the Niners clearly in the market for a new quarterback, they would do well to take him at No. 3.
