After the 49ers traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft, the whole world expects them to find a replacement for their current starter, Jimmy Garoppolo.
With the recently acquired third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have a great opportunity to get themselves a new quarterback who fits head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system.
Despite leading them to the Super Bowl in 2019, the Niners’ current starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, has faced criticism about his ability to lead San Francisco into the future.
After missing the majority of the season through injury, Garoppolo watched on as his 49ers team went from the top of the NFC West in 2019 to rock bottom. Granted, there wasn’t much anyone could do as every single Niners player seemed to be injured. That being said, in the few games Garoppolo played, he didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard.
In 2020, Garoppolo went 3-3 and only threw seven touchdowns. To go with that, he also added five interceptions. His three losses came to fierce divisional rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, a horrific outing against the Miami Dolphins, and then another poor display against another divisional rival, the Seattle Seahawks.
Not exactly endearing himself to his head coach, the general manager, or the 49ers fanbase. I
Is the time to move on now? After making a huge trade to get the No. 3 overall spot in this year’s NFL Draft, particularly sending away three high-value future draft picks along with the Niners’ first-round pick this year, it would seem like it is.
So, the question is what should the 49ers do at quarterback with the third overall pick?
Three options as follows.
