49ers NFL Draft: 4 can’t-miss prospects to target at No. 3 overall
49ers Can’t-Miss Prospect No. 1: Quarterback Zach Wilson
The first prospect the Niners could target with their new pick coming to mind is BYU’s quarterback, Zach Wilson.
Going after a quarterback, which is the likeliest of scenarios now, all but ensures San Francisco will move on from its current starter, Jimmy Garoppolo. Whether or not that’s soon or a year from now is anyone’s guess, but Wilson is of the caliber and smarts where he could potentially be good enough to take hold of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense right away.
Wilson has risen to the top of nearly every NFL Draft projection, and many argue he’ll be the second quarterback selected after Trevor Lawrence.
If Wilson falls beyond the second-drafting New York Jets, though, look out.
Wilson, of all the quarterbacks pegged to go in the top 10, fits Shanahan’s system the best. The quarterback’s stats have improved overall in his college career, and in 2020, he threw for 3,692 yards with 33 touchdowns against only three interceptions.
Now there is a strong chance the Jets grab Wilson with the second pick of the draft. But if they don’t, Wilson would be a fantastic pick for San Francisco.
