SF 49ers NFL Draft Fit No. 3: Running Back Chuba Hubbard

I know what you’re all going to say: “Oklahoma State Cowboys running back Chuba Hubbard kind of had a down year in 2020.”

But this is no reason to ignore the fact Hubbard’s 2019 season with the Cowboys was near perfect. He exemplified everything Kyle Shanahan loves in a player. Hubbard has quickness, agility and runs with power. He’s also a great pass-catching running back, who averaged 8.6 yards per catch in 2019 for a total of 198 yards on 23 catches.

Hubbard’s rushing ability is his biggest asset, though, as he was able to accumulate a nation-leading 2,094 total rushing yards on 6.4 yards per carry. Hubbard’s game speaks for itself, and he would be the type of player who fits right into this system.

Hubbard is a true home-run threat on every single play and actually plays a very similar style to the Niners’ current starting running back, Raheem Mostert, except Hubbard is bigger, faster and a lot younger. If you can look past his 2020 performance, the upside in Hubbard alone is worth the risk.

San Francisco would be absolutely ecstatic to have him rushing for the team in 2021 and beyond. Especially considering the SF 49ers don’t have any tailbacks signed beyond this upcoming season.

Oh, did I forget to mention he also ran in 21 total touchdowns in the 2019 season as well? Finding end-zone pay dirt can be a valuable attribute, too.
