More 49ers quarterbacking rumors, this time with Stanford’s Davis Mills
With their starting left tackle spot locked up and cornerback depth partially solved, the 49ers could go one of many different directions with their top pick in the NFL Draft, No. 12 overall.
A quarterback is still in play despite previous assumptions surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo, yes.
But even if the Niners pass on a quarterback early, there’s a good chance they’ll look at the draft’s later rounds to find someone worth developing as a decent backup, potentially more.
Apparently, one of the names on San Francisco’s radar is Stanford quarterback Davis Mills, who according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan, met with the 49ers. Although Mills didn’t reveal with whom he conversed:
Stanford QB Davis Mills would like to join a team that puts pressure on their QB to do more including pre-snap reads. He prides himself in his preparation.

He also revelaed he has spoken with someone with the #49ers but would not reveal who.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Mills tossed for 1,508 yards with seven touchdowns against three interceptions over five games with the Cardinal last season.
It’s likely Mills winds up being a day-three draft addition, potentially going as early as Round 5 but perhaps slipping into the ranks of the undrafted.
