With the opening wave of NFL free agency now complete, Niner Noise scours for the latest 49ers updates and rumors as the market begins to settle.

There’s a pretty good chance the San Francisco 49ers have made their final big-splash moves in NFL free agency, all of which were highlighted by the record-breaking six-year, $138 million deal for eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams.

In addition to Williams being retained, the Niners continued to reinforce their offensive line by adding former Atlanta Falcons center Alex Mack, while also grabbing former Los Angeles Rams EDGE Samson Ebukam.

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk was also re-signed along with cornerbacks Jason Verrett and Emmanuel Moseley.

True, there are some big-name players still available on the market. But it’s likely general manager John Lynch and Co. are finished with their high-profile free-agent adds. There have already been some minor additions, and there’s always going to be the talk of more players potentially finding their way to San Francisco since free agency doesn’t technically “end” at any point until contracts expire.

But this doesn’t mean the 49ers are exempt from additional reports and rumors as they look to round out as much of their roster as possible before the 2021 NFL Draft this April.

Here’s the latest from the Niners newswire after the initial wave of NFL free agency dies down.

Veteran QB Joe Flacco meets with 49ers

One of the things Lynch suggested he’d focus on this offseason was to bulk up the quarterback room with adequate depth behind the starter, Jimmy Garoppolo. Particularly with backups C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens hitting free agency.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo both reported San Francisco was meeting with 36-year-old veteran quarterback Joe Flacco:

As NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco pointed out, a would-be 49ers signing of Flacco would largely indicate the Niners are poised to stick with Garoppolo as their starter:

"But if the 49ers end up signing veteran free-agent quarterback Joe Flacco, that would be considered the team’s strongest statement, yet, that Garoppolo is going nowhere. Flacco is scheduled to make a visit to Santa Clara to meet with 49ers coaches and team officials. If the 49ers signed him, it certainly would not be with the intention of having him unseat Garoppolo."

Flacco spent 2019 with the Denver Broncos after a long tenure with the Baltimore Ravens before backing up quarterback Sam Darnold with the New York Jets last season, eventually starting four games and tossing six touchdowns against three interceptions.
