Jason Verrett to return on a one-year deal
One of San Francisco’s better storylines from an otherwise forgettable 2020 campaign was just how well veteran cornerback Jason Verrett played.
After missing all but six regular-season games between 2016 and 2019, last year marked the first fully healthy season Verrett had since his lone Pro Bowl year with the San Diego Chargers back in 2015, and he solidified a 49ers secondary that was regularly without a consistent lineup yet managed to be one of the most effective in the league.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Verrett will be staying with the Niners on a one-year deal:
I'm told CB Jason Verrett is returning to SF on a 1-year deal, per source.

John Lynch confirmed any doubts shortly after Anderson’s report, while Ian Rapoport reported it’s worth $5.5 million and then $6.5 million if he makes the Pro Bowl:
Fired up to have @Jfeeva_2 back w the squad! 🔥 Congratulations JV!

#49ers CB Jason Verrett had a multi-year offer on the table, but opted to bet on himself again. He shined when healthy. He gets a 1-year deal worth $5.5M that can be $6.5M if he makes the Pro Bowl. A solid deal.

Verrett, who’ll turn 30 years old before the start of the regular season, will have to prove he can stay healthy for multiple seasons. That’ll be the biggest challenge for him, naturally, although San Francisco still has a number of other cornerbacks hitting the NFL free agency market.
With Emmanuel Moseley also re-signed, at least the 49ers can feel comfortable with a starting boundary tandem as long as everyone stays healthy.
