Round 4, Pick No. 117 Overall: 49ers select wide receiver Amari Rodgers, Clemson

The 2021 NFL Draft is awfully deep at wide receiver, and some would rightfully argue it’s an even better class than the 2020 edition where the 49ers landed their most recent receiving star, Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel will make up the team’s top two wideouts in 2021, yet there’s going to be a need to round out the rest of the depth chart.

The No. 3 spot on the roster could be wide open, particularly if Kendrick Bourne departs in free agency. Same goes with slot receiver Trent Taylor, whose injuries in 2018 and 2019 thwarted any hope he’d develop into a quality starting option.

Unless Kyle Shanahan is banking on Richie James commanding a bigger role, one would figure the Niners would try dipping into this deep pool, where there are plenty of quality pass-catchers to be had even into day three.

One of those is the 5-foot-10, 210-pound wide receiver, Amari Rodgers, out of Clemson.

Rodgers was a yards-after-the-catch machine for the Tigers, netting 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns last season. On top of that, Rodgers would seem to fit perfectly within the confines of Shanahan’s “positionless” offense.

A key find here in Round 4 for San Francisco.
