San Francisco 49ers: 5 most forgotten quarterbacks in team history
By Peter Panacy
49ers Forgotten QB No. 3: J.T. O’Sullivan
Niners Tenure: 2008
Perhaps it’s not so great a thing the Niners have more than a handful of forgotten quarterbacks who donned the red and gold during the 2000s. Aside from a couple of years at the beginning of the decade, those were some forgettable times among the fanbase.
And there was some awfully bad quarterbacking, too, as San Francisco still couldn’t figure things out with its top pick from the 2005 NFL Draft, quarterback Alex Smith, who endured injuries, clashed with head coach Mike Nolan and also had a never-ending carousel of offensive coordinators during his first years within the league.
But this isn’t about Smith. It’s about one of his many backups early in his career, J.T. O’Sullivan.
Interestingly enough, O’Sullivan managed to get himself eight starts in 2008 as the 49ers eventually transitioned from Nolan to another head coach, Mike Singletary, that year.
And while O’Sullivan’s 2-6 record with the Niners isn’t anything to remember, at least the quarterback managed to earn himself a parody song on KNBR’s Murph and Mac Show to the tune of The Ramones’ song, “Blitzkrieg Bop.”
“Hey ho, J.T. O!”
