2021 NFL Draft: Panthers select quarterback Trey Lance, NDSU
The Carolina Panthers could be in the market for a cornerback — they need one — which helps explain the Broncos’ previous trade-up for Caleb Farley.
But it’s no secret Carolina wants to find a long-term replacement for its quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, and someone to fill the franchise-favorite void left when Cam Newton was shown the door.
North Dakota State’s Trey Lance is the last of the big-four quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. And while he has only one year of exceptional college football under his belt, 2019, there’s little doubting he could be a superstar in the NFL with some right polishing and the correct context around him.
That’s what the Panthers hope to create even if it means letting Lance sit behind Bridgewater for a year.
