2021 NFL Draft: Steelers select offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi, Texas

Truth be told, the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be a team on the decline. This, despite boasting one of the NFL’s top defenses last year.

The biggest wonder of note is whether or not quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returns in 2021. It seems like he will, but Pittsburgh essentially doesn’t have any long-term contingency plans in place. And with the Steelers being one of many teams entering salary-cap hell this offseason, it’s likely there will be some massive roster shakeups between now and the start of training camp.

One of those is the likely free-agent departure of veteran left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who’ll be nearly impossible to re-sign and leaves a gaping hole along the offensive line.

But if Pittsburgh wants a seamless transition from Villanueva to a promising rookie, it could do worse than land Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi, who has a pro-level skill set and should be capable of assuming a starting role on day one.
