2021 NFL Draft: Jets select quarterback Zach Wilson, BYU
New NY Jets head coach Robert Saleh has remained non-committal to quarterback Sam Darnold. Yet in a quarterback-rich draft class early on, it almost seems foolish for an overhauled Gang Green franchise to pass up on the opportunity to grab a team-changing signal-caller when the opportunity presents itself.
BYU’s Zach Wilson has seen a meteoric rise, going all the way from a late first-round target to being potentially the No. 2 quarterback selected behind Trevor Lawrence.
49ers fans may recall the infatuation with Wilson last year when he was on that rise. And it wasn’t hard to see the would-be fit in San Francisco.
Now, take that fit and apply it to the Niners’ former pass-game coordinator, Mike LaFleur, who is now the Jets’ offensive coordinator under Saleh. If there’s a quarterback LaFleur wants to run his newly implemented offense, Wilson would be the guy.
