3 reasons why SF 49ers won’t trade Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021
No.1: In a recent interview, John Lynch confirmed Jimmy G is sticking around, at least for now
In the world of “win now,” we often forget how well Jimmy Garoppolo has played when he’s in the lineup. It’s almost like the 2019 Super Bowl run didn’t even happen. But as for now, Jimmy G is safe, according to John Lynch.
In a recent interview on the podcast “The Eye Test for Two,” Lynch gave his thoughts on his starting quarterback. As expected he gave his stamp of approval while also bringing up the fact they need to solidify their backup.

Here’s a story to remind you just how important a backup quarterback is. In the CFL, the Calgary Stampeders lost their starting quarterback, Bo Levi Mitchell, for much of the 2019 season. He was placed on the six-game injured list twice during the year. His backup, Nick Arbuckle, came in and won four of his seven starts to keep the Stampeders in the playoff race and host the West Semi-Final.
Though the Stampeders faltered in the West Semi-Final, the fact they were even in playoffs and hosting a playoff game is truly impressive. And it’s truly thanks to Arbuckle for stepping up and being ready.
So as much as you want to blame Garoppolo, Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard didn’t do their job and thus created pandemonium across the Niner Faithful.
It was also refreshing to hear Lynch talk about his struggles early in his career. In the podcast, he mentions his first few seasons were a bit rocky, but then never missed practice for many years.
But again, we live in a world where if you’re not winning or show signs of weakness you’re quick to move on.
The players have said they believe in Jimmy G. Shanahan and Lynch also said they believe in him. So isn’t it time the Faithful believe in him again too?
Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t going anywhere for the time being. Expect him to bounce back in 2021 and lead the SF 49ers back to the playoffs.
