SF 49ers Round 5 pick (from Saints)

With their fourth available pick in the draft, a Round 5 selection picked up in the trade with the New Orleans Saints for linebacker Kwon Alexander last year, the SF 49ers select Elijah Mitchell, running back out of Louisiana.

Mitchell is not exactly one of the flashier names in this running back class, but he averaged 6.2 yards per carry over his four years at Louisiana and would potentially be a massive steal in the draft, adding another dangerous runner to a running back unit that will be losing both runners Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon to free agency.

It’s possible the Niners look to free agency to fill their need at the position, but Mitchell would be a much cheaper option.

Plus, we all know what Kyle Shanahan is able to do with his late-round steals.
