Sometimes it’s the deal teams DON’T make that matter most, and the SF 49ers would be wise to steer clear of these possible trades this offseason.

The SF 49ers have been no strangers to the offseason rumor mill, and it appears as if nearly every player made available on the open trade market has somehow been linked to the Niners.

Particularly quarterbacks.

Much of the speculation can be sourced from NFL analysts “suggesting” teams like San Francisco put in bids for players potentially on the trade block. And while there might be interest — general manager John Lynch and Co. doing their due diligence by proverbially “kicking the tires” — there also tends to be a lot more smoke this time of year than fire.

Lynch and the SF 49ers aren’t afraid of making blockbuster deals. Case in point, they were willing to move a fan favorite and Pro Bowl player, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, in a big-time move to the Indianapolis Colts. That move carried significant risk, both in terms of locker-room chemistry and on-field production, and it’s yet to be determined whether or not the player who ultimately took over for Buckner, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, will pan out as an adequate replacement.

At the same time, there are trade scenarios and offers Lynch and the Niners should avoid this offseason.

Sure, they don’t want to get fleeced by some one-sided deal. That’s obvious enough. But there are other potential trade possibilities being floated out there, and San Francisco should simply provide a polite “pass” when other teams inquire about these three specific trades this offseason.
