SF 49ers post-Super Bowl 7-round mock NFL Draft
If there’s any doubt about Clemson wideout Amari Rodgers’ fit in the SF 49ers offense, look no further than this statement from Joe Marino of The Draft Network: “Rodgers is a slot receiver that is built like a running back.”
Rodgers had the benefit of his career mostly lining up with Trevor Lawrence, the consensus No. 1 overall selection in this draft, who tossed him 2,021 of his 2,144 yards on 162 of his 181 receptions and all 15 of his career touchdowns.
The wideout won’t increase the average height of the SF 49ers’ wide receiver room, standing at just 5-foot-9, but he plays with a physicality that would line up nicely with other Niners’ pass-catchers like wideout Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle.
Rodgers will likely feature as a slot receiver due to his size but could also be yet another option for Shanahan to dial up with jet sweets and end-around runs along with Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. And he’s also a solid option as a return man, averaging just under eight yards per punt return during his Clemson career.
Again, at this point in the draft, you’re looking for someone who can do one thing very well or who was very productive in college, and Rodgers was quite productive and has strong skills as a receiver and with the ball in his hands. He also had zero fumbles in his four years in college.
He won’t necessarily provide a new option for the SF 49ers offense, but he will be yet another choice for defenses to key on among all the other weapons on the field for Shanahan.
