5 prospects SF 49ers should avoid in Round 1 of 2021 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
No. 1: Quarterback Kyle Trask, Florida
San Francisco should look hard at quarterbacks in this year’s draft. Even if the team elects to ride it out with its current starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, there are reasons enough why landing an up-and-coming rookie to push him would be beneficial.

Entering 2020, Florida quarterback Kyle Trask was in easy consideration for one of the top five signal-callers to be selected on draft day amid a loaded and top-heavy class. But his three-interception flameout against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl dropped his stock considerably.
Granted, Trask’s efforts up to that point were respectable enough as he passed for over 4,200 yards with 43 touchdowns. And this isn’t a case where Trask completely removed himself from the SF 49ers’ big board.
Just not in Round 1.
If the Niners do elect to go with a quarterback in the first round and miss on the big four of Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, BYU’s Zach Wilson, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, they could reach a bit at No. 12 and grab Alabama’s Mac Jones.
Reaching for a player like Trask, even with the knowledge quarterback stock values always rise towards the draft and a trade-down would help increase value, would be far too big a stretch.
The only way Trask makes sense for San Francisco is if he falls into Round 2. Perhaps even as low as Round 3.
