Round 2, Pick No. 43 Overall: SF 49ers select OG Wyatt Davis, Ohio State

812. . Offensive Guard. Buckeyes . Wyatt Davis. 43. player

Aside from cornerback, it’s awfully clear San Francisco could stand for some reinforcements along its offensive line in 2021.

Left tackle Trent Williams is the biggest priority, of course, as he’s poised to hit free agency. But one could also look at upgrading right guard with the potential to overtake at least Daniel Brunskill and potentially left guard Laken Tomlinson in the not-so-distant future.

Fortunately, there are plenty of solid O-line prospects throughout this year’s NFL Draft, but few interior linemen are as impressive enough as Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis.

Davis was a big part of the Buckeyes’ NCAA championship run last season, and it was evident how much his presence was missed after he suffered an injury in the CFB Playoff Championship game versus Alabama.

A three-year starter, Davis didn’t participate in the Senior Bowl, of course. But he didn’t need to. A 6-foot-4, 310-pound mauler with excellent prowess in both pass protection and run support. His side-to-side mobility also makes him a fit for the SF 49ers’ zone-style rushing attack, and getting a player like Davis to pull and extend second-level blocks would make a lot of sense.

The Niners have made it a priority to build and reinforce the trenches, and that’s precisely their route taken in Round 2 of this year’s draft.

At least according to this mock.
