SF 49ers: 3 hypothetical trade scenarios for Texans QB Deshaun Watson
By Peter Panacy
With Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson possibly on the trade market, the SF 49ers could consider offering up one of these trade packages.
In all reality, the SF 49ers are going to be hard-pressed to engineer any kind of deal for disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
While Watson’s frustrations with Houston’s attempts to revamp its coaching staff and front office are well known, there remains the strong possibility the Texans won’t entertain any sort of trade for the 25-year-old franchise centerpiece unless a would-be deal is simply too good to pass up.
And with the Niners already on the cusp of a team being ready to win now, one has to first assume general manager John Lynch would be looking at Watson’s trade-asking price as far too steep.
That said, Watson is a game-changer. Even Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, speaking to 95.7 The Game (h/t 49ers Webzone), felt Watson should consider San Francisco an ideal destination:
"If the opportunity is here in San Francisco, I don’t think Deshaun Watson is going to pass that up because everything is in place for him to win a Super Bowl. I mean, he’s got everything on offense, he’s got a great defense, and it’s just there for the taking."
However, this isn’t simply going to be a trade coup like the one the SF 49ers engineered in the spring of 2020 with the Washington Football Team for perennial Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams where all that was needed was two mid-round NFL Draft picks. No, the Texans are going to ask for a lot more than that.
If for no other reason than Watson is a young star any rebuilding team would want to have as its cornerstone.
Yet if the Niners were going to go all in, one of these possible trade scenarios could make it happen.
