SF 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman seems like he’s on his way out but where to?

It’s all but official superstar cornerback Richard Sherman‘s time with the SF 49ers is done, so it’s time to speculate where Sherman may be taking his talents during the 2021 season and potentially beyond.

Let’s face it, Sherman is now an old dog in a young pup’s league. This is by no means a slight on Sherman or his football IQ, but his athletic abilities are fading fast, and he’s no longer considered a top cornerback in the league.

Especially with him turning 33 years old before the start of the upcoming season and coming off a 2020 campaign where injuries held him to just five games played.

This is presumably why the Niners, who are slightly stuck in terms of cap space for the 2021 season, are letting Sherman walk. Having said this, Sherman is still an all-time great at the cornerback position and should be treated as such, no matter his age. His dominant zone coverage skills will go down as one of the best ever, but no one can stay dominant forever.

Now, this is not to say he won’t be a hot commodity, as a lot of contenders with a little more cap space will be looking to add a veteran like Sherman to help bolster their defensive units. No matter where he goes, he will probably operate as the team’s No. 2 corner, but his experience in the NFL alone will be worth adding him to a secondary.

Let’s take a look at some of the probable destinations for Sherman.
