SF 49ers Playoff Win-Loss Record: 1-1

There will be those who feel quarterback Alex Smith doesn’t deserve to be ranked this high on the list.

Particularly when Jimmy Garoppolo ended up appearing in more playoff games for San Francisco than Smith did, and the former’s tenure with the SF 49ers is notably significantly shorter.

Smith only won one postseason bout with the Niners. But, oh. What a game that was.

San Francisco’s back-and-forth divisional-round bout with the New Orleans Saints in 2012 was, perhaps, the most exciting game in franchise history. Smith’s bootleg scramble for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter seemed to give the SF 49ers the win, only to see that lead evaporate with a minute left in regulation.

No problem. Smith delivered the game-winning pass to tight end Vernon Davis, which earned the moniker, “The Catch III.”

Even during Smith’s lone playoff loss with San Francisco, he passed for nearly 200 yards with two touchdowns against no interceptions.

No, it wasn’t Smith who lost that infamous game against the Giants.
