Power ranking all 9 SF 49ers quarterbacks in team playoff history
By Peter Panacy
No. 8: Frankie Albert
SF 49ers Playoff Win-Loss Record: 1-1
Quarterback Frankie Albert might not have the legacy of Y.A. Tittle, and most SF 49ers fans probably will forget Albert’s name when they go back and consider the top signal-callers in franchise history.
It doesn’t help Albert was actually the first regular quarterback of the Niners after the team’s inception in 1946, although that’s a pretty cool accolade.
Only if those San Francisco squads were able to get into the postseason a bit more.
Albert made the playoffs just once during his seven-year career in 1950, and he’s actually responsible for the SF 49ers’ first ever postseason win — a 17-7 win over the NY Yankees (yes, they were called the Yankees) back in the old days of the AAFC.
While Albert wasn’t overly impressive during the bout, tossing one touchdown against two interceptions and posting a 44.9 passer rating, at least he was on the right side of the win.
Too bad he fell back to .500 the following week when the Niners lost to the Cleveland Browns in the AAFC Championship game, and Albert would never make it back to the postseason.
At least you can enjoy the vintage commercial at the top of the slide.
