Fit with the SF 49ers

At a glance, you might be of the opinion Kyle Pitts would be nothing more than a wasted luxury pick when the team has bigger needs on the table as they seek to return to the Super Bowl.

But when you realize the SF 49ers want to run more of their offense with two tight ends and reportedly made a run for now-Cleveland Browns tight end Austin Hooper, you can begin to appreciate the potential of having two elite weapons at the position.

It boils down to essentially one question: Wouldn’t you like to see the SF 49ers offense with two versions of George Kittle running around?

Now to be clear, I’m not comparing Pitts to Kittle directly. Kittle is a proven commodity in the pros and a much superior blocker.

But with Pitts almost as good as Kittle in the receiving game, all the Niners would need is for Kittle to mentor Pitts on how to block effectively. He has the physical tools to do this, and Kittle would be an enthusiastic teacher.

If the SF 49ers can use two tight ends who are equally elite at blocking and catching the ball, as well as being the freakish physical matchups that they are, then the offense would take on a scary identity no matter who’s at quarterback.

It would allow them to have scary mismatches passing the ball with them on the field as well as wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, and it would give them a stout blocking corps up front when they want to ram the ball down the throat of the defense.

In short, Pitts would be a gamechanger.

Luxury pick this is not, as a matter of fact, you could go as far as to say that Pitts is the missing cog of the offense to truly put it over the top.
