Scouting report

Kyle Pitts passes the eyeball test in just about every conceivable way possible. His 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame is the perfect size for a receiving tight end to provide an athletic mismatch.

Pitts is a fast and fluid athlete with an excellent technique in the receiving game. Part of his mismatch ability comes not from his physical gifts, but his ability to both get open despite attention as well as grabbing the contested ball.

This is where both his acceleration and his route running comes into play. Pitts has a wicked first step both off the line of scrimmage as well as when he makes his cuts during routes. He doesn’t waste time with extra steps but uses his strength and athleticism to make the most efficient plays.

Even when he doesn’t get open, that doesn’t preclude his ability to get the ball. Pitts will make plays in the middle of the field or go up for contested catches. He shows no fear, only a natural inclination to get the ball however he can.

Florida has done well to coach him up for the NFL. He can run a full route tree and has all the mental tools necessary to be an instant starter and weapon in the NFL. His scheme versatility is very important for teams as well, as he can fit into almost any offense with ease and still make an impact.

The one area where Pitts does need improving is in blocking. Pitts doesn’t show any hesitation in putting his body in the trenches, but his technique is somewhat sub par. Blocking can come in time, however, with the right coaching.
