SF 49ers: 2021 re-sign ‘bubble watch’ for pending free agents
By Peter Panacy
SF 49ers Free-Agent ‘Long Shot’
Richard Sherman, Tevin Coleman, Ronald Blair, Ezekiel Ansah, Tom Compton, Jerick McKinnon, Tony Bergstrom, Hroniss Grasu, Dion Jordan, C.J. Beathard, Colin Holba (ERFA), Joe Walker, River Cracraft (ERFA), Kai Nacua (ERFA)
The biggest name on this list, of course, is cornerback Richard Sherman, who missed extensive time in 2020 because of a calf injury and already suggested strongly it’ll be too difficult for the Niners to keep him around.
San Francisco will likely want to get younger at the position anyway, and health will also be a reason why running backs Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon aren’t slated for returns this offseason either.
Beathard is an interesting case, too, as the SF 49ers seem to like him despite his notable on-field struggles since being selected in Round 3 of the 2017 NFL Draft, the first signal-caller Lynch and Co. ever drafted.
But the strong sense would point to both parties finally moving on, as the Niners need a quarterback-room shakeup anyway.
