5 pending free agents SF 49ers should watch this postseason

No. 2: Defensive Back P.J. Williams, New Orleans Saints
Sticking with the secondary theme here, the SF 49ers should also take a hard look at defensive back P.J. Williams of the New Orleans Saints.
Williams, who is wrapping up his one-year deal after his initial four-year rookie contract with the Saints expired, is a versatile part of their secondary, doubling as a safety and a nickel cornerback.
San Francisco could use both depth along the final line of the defense and a potential long-term replacement for K’Waun Williams, who should be one of the Niners’ top re-sign priorities this offseason but might be too expensive to retain.
P.J. Williams, meanwhile, doesn’t quite have the record sheet to stay with his current SF 49ers counterpart. But the flexibility is something that could be attractive here, and it’s likely he’ll wind up being a lot cheaper on the open market.
Williams does have an interception in each of the last four years, which is a bonus, while 15 passes defended over the last three seasons is a good plus, too.
If Williams showcases some solid playmaking skills throughout the playoffs, San Francisco should be looking at him as a nice NFL free agency grab.
