No. 2: SF 49ers Running Back Tevin Coleman

He wasn’t a healthy scratch for Week 17, but veteran running back Tevin Coleman might as well have been on the inactive list.

Despite all the injuries San Francisco has dealt with at the position, Coleman has fallen to No. 3 on the team’s depth chart behind fellow runners Jeff Wilson Jr. and Jerick McKinnon. No. 4, if one includes the fact Kyle Shanahan elected to give return specialist Austin Walter some touches on special teams.

Coleman, too, has dealt with injuries this season, and it’s safe to admit it was tough for him to get going after being regularly in and out of the lineup.

But Coleman, who didn’t receive a single touch to close out the 2020 campaign, also failed to make much of anything from the limited opportunities down the stretch, seeing just eight combined touches over the SF 49ers’ final five games.

A free agent to be in 2021, it makes little sense for the Niners to ask Coleman back, even on a discounted price, next year. Especially when players like Wilson, Walter and possibly even the rookie, JaMycal Hasty, in the mix for roles in the near future.

For that matter, McKinnon is likely gone, too, as San Francisco shakes up its running back depth for next season.
