Even with a healthy return of Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and JaMycal Hasty, the running back situation will have a much different look to it in 2021 with the expected departures of Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon.
Taking a flier on Iowa’s Mekhi Sargent is perfect for a late-round pick. Sargent, a 5-foot-9, 209-pound brick of a running back, rushed for 432 yards on just 76 carries with seven touchdowns for the Hawkeyes this season. As with most skill position players, Sargent’s 40-time wlll go a long way into where he will be drafted.
Perhaps his size will help to keep him healthy when absorbing the hits of NFL players. For the Niners, they would just like to have a healthy season in 2021, and adding a back who can potentially take a few carries a game would be a welcomed addition.
The 2021 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 29.
