Loser: SF 49ers Running Back Tevin Coleman

Jeff Wilson’s ascent has come at the expense of two other running backs on the Niners depth chart, Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman.

As far as the pecking order goes, however, it would appear Coleman is now the No. 3 option behind the other two, and it showed by the amount of touches he received in Week 16. In total, Coleman saw just two rushes for 3 yards and was able to haul in one pass on one target for no gain.

McKinnon, who is also fielding kickoffs, had only one rush but was targeted four times in the passing game.

It seems pretty clear Kyle Shanahan would rather field McKinnon over Coleman, one of San Francisco’s prime free-agent pickups from last year.

Coleman, an unrestricted free agent in 2021, doesn’t seem to be helping his offseason value much, and it’s likely the SF 49ers move on from him once the season draws to a close.
